It kicked off the year by winning Top Gear's Family Car of the Year accolade, followed it with two wins in the What Car? Awards and has now also won three categories in a fleet industry poll – overall best car, best upper medium car and best estate car.
The Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Zetec scooped a win in both the Family Car and Estate Car categories of the What Car? Awards, with the judges selecting this particular model due to its frugal yet lively and refined diesel powertrain combined with a specification-packed interior.
What Car? group editor Steve Fowler described the new Mondeo as "nothing short of fantastic and head and shoulders above its rivals. Whichever model you choose you’ll have a great looking, well-built and well-equipped family car that’s a joy to drive or be driven in.”
Ford fleet director Kevin Griffin said: “New Mondeo gathered a lot of attention when it was launched last year and we’re delighted with the sales figures. Fleet customers often put huge demands on their vehicles and Mondeo is more than up to the job.
“As well as being spacious, refined, affordable to buy, lease and run, the Mondeo is also desirable. This is a car people can choose with their heart and head and in today’s market that’s very important."
Mondeo chief engineer Jens Ludman, the man behind car’s exceptional driving qualities, commented: “Competition is tough, and getting tougher, so the pressure was on to deliver something very special. The reception Mondeo has received across Europe suggests the car buying public like what Ford has created." |
